Term 4 News from the Head of Senior School
As we commence a new term at the College, it is incredibly exciting to witness the wonderful events, incursions and excursions taking place across the College campus. We will shortly commence filming for our annual Speech Night and, although it is disappointing that we will not be able to gather together as a community to witness the exceptional achievements of students at our College, it is humbling to see the number of students who have achieved success in co-curricular or academic fields. Each and every student should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved so far this year; those receiving an award at Speech Night, as well as those who have achieved elsewhere. Each of us will have our own individual and diverse accomplishments that we can celebrate and I know that our College community will be behind those achieving an award and those who have achieved success in their own arena when Speech Night is presented to the College community on 17 November.
In addition to preparing for Speech Night, the first two weeks of Term 4 have been full of interesting and inspiring opportunities for our students. Our Year 12 Cohort will shortly commence their external examinations and our Year 11 accelerated students in Dance, Literature and Mathematical Methods will be beside them preparing for the culmination of their respective courses. The whole College will be thinking of each of these students, providing support, light relief when necessary and we wish them all the very best of luck. Our Year 12 students will celebrate together on Tuesday 19 October when they gather for the Good Luck Lunch in Lower Maths.
Later in this term we look forward to hearing about our Year 9 and Year 8 cohorts' experiences on their respective camps. Year 9 students will be in the midst of preparing what to pack with the camp departing in less than two weeks. I am sure that they are looking forward with excitement and perhaps a little trepidation, to the incredible activities that they will experience on this camp. The camps our students take part in each year serve as a fond memory when students graduate and I am certain that the experiences these two cohorts have this term will be no different.
As our Year 10 students commence their first piece of assessment for Unit 1, our Year 7s have had their eyes opened to a variety of experiences whilst attending the Art Experience this week. Students were fortunate to take part in a series of workshops delivered by indigenous artist, Peter Muraay Djeripi Mulcahy and author, Lucas Stibbard. Our Year 9 cohort have been studying how Japanese made products have been marketed all around the world during their languages lessons and were fortunate to meet members and receive a presentation from the Z Car Club where members shared their passion for Japanese engineering.
Term 4 is always an exciting time on the academic calendar, representing so much, including the culmination of a year’s hard work, the multitude of celebratory events to the opportunity to celebrate our graduating Year 12s. So much has taken place already and I look forward to witnessing what is to come, celebrating and congratulating our students on all of their achievements.
