Small but Mighty: Junior Chess Club Shines at Tournament

Junior Chess Club’s team may have been small, but their determination and skill made a big impact at the recent tournament at Pacific Pines State School. Competing against strong contenders, these young players demonstrated remarkable strategy, focus, and teamwork, earning accolades across multiple divisions.

  • In Division A, Benjamin Jiao (Year 6H) showcased his impressive chess ability, earning a Merit Ribbon for his outstanding performance.
  • In Division C, Patrick Shan (Year 3H) also secured a Merit Ribbon, recognising his skilful play throughout the competition. Meanwhile, Oliver Model (Year 2S) dominated the individual category, securing First Place and taking home the coveted Individual Medal. The team effort was just as impressive—Oliver, alongside Patrick, Flynn Whitehead (3H), and David Feldblyum (1D), worked together to clinch Second Place in the Team Medal rankings, proving that teamwork is just as important as individual skill.
  • In Division D, young chess talent continued to shine as Luca Xu (2Y) earned a well-deserved Merit Ribbon, rounding out the team’s impressive achievements.

Despite their small size, this dedicated group of players showcased resilience, tactical brilliance, and sportsmanship. Their success reflects the hard work they have put into practice sessions and their love for the game.

With such an outstanding tournament performance, Junior Chess Club is already looking ahead to Term 3, where even more students will have the opportunity to participate, refine their skills, and continue building on the club’s strong legacy. Excitement is high as players prepare for their next challenge!
