Science Labs set for a big bang in 2027
A.B. Paterson College will refurbish every one of it’s science laboratories over the coming months, giving all Secondary School students access to upgraded facilities when classes return in 2027.
The project, approved by the College Board as part of its master plan, will deliver a complete transformation of the College’s science building.
Principal Jo Sheehy said the refurbishment reflected the growing number of students choosing STEM-related pathways after school.
“Our science labs are a launchpad for students, providing a foundation for those who go on to amazing careers in science-related industries, allied health and engineering,” Ms. Sheehy said.
The design was shaped by months of consultation with the College’s science faculty, who drew on insights from Griffith University and leading Queensland schools to explore contemporary laboratory design and approaches to science teaching.
Ms. Sheehy said the aim was to create learning environments that complemented the College’s teaching and built on the strong STEM foundations already in place.
“It’s about making sure our buildings reflect our teaching approach and the work our staff do to support our students,” she said.
“It is time to take our science facilities to the next level.”
Construction will begin next week, with the science building temporarily closed while works are completed.
The eight upgraded laboratories are scheduled to be ready when students return in 2027, continuing the College’s ongoing investment in learning environments that prepare students for future opportunities.
