Exciting Adventures in the Metaverse with Our Prep Students!
This term our enthusiastic Prep students plugged into the Metaverse and had a blast!
They went on a Tech Treasure Hunt, discovering and learning about some amazing tech tools along the way.
Our young explorers discovered Dash and Dot, Indi Robots, 3D Printers, Nintendo Switch and iPads.
After their virtual adventure, our Preppies enjoyed some well-deserved sunshine on the deck. Using their Maths skills, they explored shapes through an engaging 2D shape app, making learning both fun and interactive.
Keep up the great work, future tech leaders!

Barbershop A Cappella Workshop
Approximately 60 students attended a Barbershop A Cappella Workshop and enjoyed performances by Lemon Squeezy who are visiting from Sweden for a national barbershop singing convention.
The students were inspired by beautifully ringing harmonies and learnt to sing in the style of 4-part barbershop with one of the best quartets in the world.
Thank you, Principal Joanne Sheehy and Deputy Principal Charlotte Brook for your support in allowing the college to host this rare opportunity for our students, in partnership with the national organisation Barbershop Harmony Australia.

Junior Chess Club - State Final Qualifiers!
On Wednesday 4 September, two teams from our college competed in the Gardiner Chess Gold Coast Primary Finals at Emmanuel College.
Despite being smaller in size, our teams demonstrated remarkable strength, with Team 1 securing a spot in the upcoming Queensland State Finals in October. This achievement is particularly impressive considering the larger contingents from other schools. Both teams exhibited tremendous enthusiasm and consistently upheld our College’s values of Excellence, Care, and Commitment.
The Team 1 State Final Qualifiers are: Alana Liew 6H, Nicholas Liew 4C, Nolan Yu 3H and Alfie Yan 4C.
Congratulations to these students!

News from Year 6 Classroom
This Term the Year 6 theme has been all about our Winton Tour!
The Year 6 cohort headed off on the trip of a lifetime out to Winton in Week 5. There were many early starts, late finishes, long bus trips and cold mornings. Some stops along the way included Charleville where students and staff spent one night enjoying the company of others in a large shed, three amazing nights in tents along the Thomson River in Longreach and everyone's favourite place to stay, Barty’s Place in Winton.
Some highlights of the trip included:
Barty’s Place
Save The Bilbies
Tree of Knowledge Memorial
Qantas Luminescent Show
Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame
Camden Park Station
Longreach Aussie Tours Train ride and Darr river waterhole with morning tea.
Gondwana Stars Observatory
Australian Age of Dinosaurs
Combo Waterhole
Waltzing Matilda Centre
Miner’s Heritage Walk-In Mine
Upon our return, the Year 6 cohort held a Winton Celebration Evening which allowed both parents and students to celebrate the wonderful memories that were made on the Winton Camp. It was an opportunity to showcase the ten-day trip and what it truly entailed. Families enjoyed a Winton movie which incorporated a multitude of highlights from the trip including videos, photos, student reflections and student interviews. This video illustrated just how much the students did and learnt whilst on this trip and highlighted the friendships made, the lessons learnt and the lifelong memories. It also provided an opportunity to thank all of the teachers, staff and parent helpers who were a part of making the camp possible.

Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Presentation
Congratulations to three of our Year 12 students who graduated from the College in 2023 and who recently received their Gold Duke of Edinburgh International Award at a special ceremony in Brisbane.
The event took place at the Brisbane City Hall in front of invited special guests, family, and friends.
The three students were: Mingqian Zhou, Jojo Hou and Magdalena Kolarich who was the Duke of Edinburgh captain at the college.
This is an amazing achievement by the girls who spent a year completing voluntary service, skills, and physical recreation as well as a Residential Project to complete the award.
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is an internationally recognised program, which aims to motivate young people aged 14 years and over to become involved in a balanced program of voluntary self-development activities. Students develop both leadership and teamwork skills by partaking in physical recreation, learning a new skill, providing a service to the community and participating in bushwalking expeditions. If any students are interested in joining the Duke of Edinburgh program, please direct your queries to the Head of Outdoor Education, Andrew Sole ASole@abpat.qld.edu.au
