Congratulations to our A.B. Paterson College team consisting of Mimi Shen (Year 10) and Peter Zhu (Year 9) who achieved third place at the 2025 Mayor's Technology and Innovation Awards held in October 2025!

Their project which was called "YUMMY" made by Mimi and Peter were awarded the 3rd place and the prize which can be found in the link below.

The awards are proudly presented by Experience Gold Coast with the City of Gold Coast, Cohort Innovation Space and Bond University. This is a great innovative for Gold Coast high school students with an innovative, technological idea waiting to be discovered!

Did you know A.B. Paterson College was one of only a few Australian schools recently featured in The Commonwealth at 75, a commemorative publication celebrating 75 years of the Commonwealth of Nations.

College Principal Joanne Sheehy attended the official launch event at Westminster Abbey in London, joining over 500 esteemed guests and dignitaries from across the Commonwealth. We reflect back on this proud moment.

Joanne Sheehy is among this year's finalists for the Gold Coast Bulletin's Women of the Year Awards in the education category.

Market Day 2025 was a vibrant celebration of creativity and entrepreneurship, marking the successful culmination of the $20 Boss unit. Students showcased their innovative businesses to the school community across four lunchtimes in Week 5.

The event was buzzing with energy as students offered a variety of products reflecting the teamwork, and problem-solving skills developed throughout the unit. Not only did students gain valuable experience in budgeting, marketing, and customer service, but they also built confidence and pride in their achievements. $20 BOSS was a testament to the power of hands-on learning and student-led enterprise.

The outstanding amount of $1500 was raised by the Year 10 Business and Economic students $20 BOSS Unit and will be donated to the Gold Coast RSPCA in Week 9 at the final assembly.

Special thanks to Mr Jonathan Albertini, Mr Anthony Chetter, Mrs Natalie Williams (Junior School), Ms Angelina van Heerden (Accounts), Mr Ethan Sheilds, Mr Jake Turner, the HASS Department, the Year 1-3 teachers, Facilities and Maintenance Support, to all staff who generously gave their time, and released students early from their individual subjects, and finally to the students' parents, siblings and family friends who supported their entrepreneurial endeavours.

We still have some wonderful Eco Sprouts pot plant seedlings, dreamy Meca Bar homemade soaps, and stunning King Zaks homemade bath bombs. These are priced between $2-5 dollars.

Last weekend, a group of students took part in a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh International Award Camp in Brisbane. Most were taking part in their second camp which was there qualifying camp and one student was on her first practice camp. The Urban Exploration was part of the requirements of the Adventurous Journey component of the Award.

Students explored the city environment working upon personal projects on urban related topics. They carried out a comparative study of the predominantly manicured Brisbane Parks with the Gold Coast’s more natural untouched parklands. Topics include the impact of humans on the environment, how do cycle paths, designated pathways and footpaths etc impact on the natural features on the park and what is the impact of artificially designed parks on the natural environment (fauna and flora).

All students had a great time and the group dynamics, team spirit and enthusiastic approach to leadership tasks during the weekends activities was excellent. The weather was perfect for exploring the streets and suburbs of Queensland’s capital. Venues visited included Roma Street Parklands, New Farm Park, Southbank and Brisbane’s Botanical Gardens.

The students were accompanied by AB Paterson’s Head of Outdoor Education Andrew Sole and Mathematics teacher Monica Olivier.

The 35th Annual Speech Night will be held on Wednesday, 19 November at 5:30pm in the Dunlop Multi-Purpose Centre.

Parents please note, Speech Night is a compulsory event for all students in Years 4 to 12. 

Please ensure your child arrives promptly at 5:00pm to have their name marked from the roll. The evening is expected to end at 8.00pm.

Further information, detailing where students are to go for roll call at 5pm and where parents can pick them up at the conclusion of Speech Night will be available in the coming weeks.

The Speech Night program will be electronic, but can be obtained from Reception after the event.

Come and watch the Senior Choir and Bellas and Fellas on the Cornerstone Concert on Saturday, 15 November, in the LPAC, 7:00pm to 9:30pm. 

Cornerstone is a group of young men, conducted by Mr Jonothan Albertini, who rehearse at A.B. Paterson College and include alumni singers as members. Each year this event brings together high-quality a cappella groups to showcase their acts. 

All are invited to support the students and also watch award winning groups including Cornerstone (men’s national chorus champions) and Blindside (Australia’s best male barbershop quartet).
