Year 2 Visual Arts Learning
This term, our Year 2 students have been exploring the world of European art and discovering how artists express ideas through different styles and techniques. They have learned about influential artists including Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Piet Mondrian, as well as American artist Georgia O'Keeffe.
Throughout the unit, students have not only studied these artists’ famous works but also explored the history and stories behind them. This has helped deepen their understanding of how art reflects different times, places, and perspectives.
Students have enthusiastically recreated selected artworks using a range of authentic art-making skills and techniques. They experimented with watercolour to capture soft, blended effects inspired by Monet, used oil pastels to create bold, expressive marks like Van Gogh, explored collage to reflect Mondrian’s geometric style, and combined materials through mixed media to represent O’Keeffe’s detailed and vibrant compositions.
It has been wonderful to see students develop their creativity, confidence, and appreciation for art while making connections between artistic techniques and historical context. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the thoughtful artworks they have produced.
