Students Shine at Global Link Australia Convention

Aug 6, 2026 2:15 PM

Four of our Secondary School students, Abby Dosser, Aarya Rudrawar, Sophie Magee and Hannah Dooley, recently represented A.B. Paterson College at the Global Link Australia Convention held over three days at Tangalooma Island Resort.

The Global Link Australia Convention brings together students from schools across Australia and overseas to collaborate on global issues, develop leadership skills, and present innovative ideas that address real-world challenges. Throughout the convention, students participated in presentation sessions, team-building activities, an environmental challenge, cultural experiences, and networking opportunities with like-minded young leaders. Highlights included the Tanga Eco Challenge, Bush Tucker Tour, educational workshops, dolphin feeding experience, whale watching and the convention awards ceremony.

Our students proudly presented their sustainability initiative to delegates from around the world, demonstrating not only their passion for environmental stewardship but also the confidence, professionalism and teamwork that are synonymous with A.B. Paterson College.

We are thrilled to announce that Abby, Aarya, Sophie and Hannah were awarded the Student Choice Award - a particularly special honour as it was voted on by the students themselves. With presentations from schools representing different regions and countries, delegates had the opportunity to vote for the presentation they believed was the most engaging and impactful. To be recognised by their peers in this way is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the quality of their work, their presentation skills, and their ability to inspire others.

As their supervising teacher, one of the most rewarding aspects of the convention was witnessing the leadership qualities our students displayed beyond the formal presentations. During the convention, students were repeatedly placed into mixed groups with students they had never met before and asked to select a group leader. Once again, A.B. Paterson College students were chosen to lead. This is not the first time I have witnessed this at Global Link Australia - or on other leadership excursions. Time and time again, A.B. Paterson College students naturally earn the trust and respect of their peers through qualities that cannot simply be taught in a classroom.

Their kindness, confidence, initiative and willingness to make others feel welcome embody the values we strive to instil at our College every day. Often, leadership begins with something as simple as a friendly greeting and making others feel included.

Congratulations to Abby, Aarya, Sophie and Hannah on representing our College with such distinction. We are incredibly proud of the way they embraced every opportunity, demonstrated exceptional leadership, and showcased the absolute best of the A.B. Paterson College community.
