Students Represent the College as Griffith Business School Ambassadors
On Thursday 30 July, seven Year 9 students represented A.B. Paterson College as Griffith Business School Ambassadors for the day at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus.
Our student ambassadors were Saavi Gaikwad, Aanya Sudame, Aleena Amir, Nikita Harish, Alyssa Fu, Emily Gao and Soha Ahmed.
The students were welcomed by Dr Ryan Gould, Schools Director at Griffith Business School, who hosted the day and introduced students to the opportunities available through business education and the broader university experience.
The program commenced with an interactive session led by Dr Barry Fraser, Director of Engagement in the Department of Tourism and Marketing, exploring the question: Are you ready to play a part in the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games? Students considered the significant career opportunities Brisbane 2032 will create across tourism, hospitality, events, sport management and the wider visitor economy, as well as the important role business will play in delivering a global event of this scale.
Students then participated in a series of hands-on university experiences. In Griffith’s Trading Room Experience, they stepped into a professional-style financial environment and explored how university students use industry tools and market data to analyse financial markets and inform decision-making.
They also participated in Thinking with Machines, led by Associate Professor Luke Houghton from Griffith’s Department of Management. This session explored how artificial intelligence can be used to support learning, sharpen reasoning and test ideas, while challenging students to consider why critical thinking will become increasingly important in an AI-driven workforce.
Through the Making a Difference session, students explored the connections between politics, diplomacy, sports diplomacy and society. They considered how decisions can create opportunities or barriers and gained insight into the university courses and career pathways available across these fields.
The day concluded with Getting Ready for Uni: Your Questions Answered, a panel discussion with Griffith Business School alumni and current student leaders. Our students were able to hear directly about the university experience and ask questions about study options, career pathways and the transition from secondary school to university.
The Griffith Business School Ambassadors Program provided our students with a valuable opportunity to represent A.B. Paterson College while experiencing university life first-hand and engaging directly with academics, university students and industry-focused learning.
