Senior Chess Club Triumphs at King's Christian College!

The atmosphere at King’s Christian College, was electric last Monday, as the Gardiner Chess 2025 Term 2 Gold Coast Secondary Tournament took centre stage. Our talented students showcased their strategic brilliance and unwavering determination, making the event a thrilling display of chess mastery.

Throughout the tournament, players demonstrated remarkable skill, focus and resilience. From meticulously planned opening moves to nail-biting endgames, each round was a testament to their dedication and tactical expertise. Their sportsmanship and enthusiasm further highlighted the strength of our chess community.

The competition culminated in outstanding results:

Division A

  • Merit Ribbon: Alvin Chen (Year 11), Pratyush Khadka (Year 8), Rhyder Wu (Year 7)
  • Team Medal: Equal 2nd place (3rd on countback) - Congratulations to A.B. Paterson College Team 1: Alvin Chen (Year 11), Achi Herrid (Year 7), Pratyush Khadka (Year 8) and Rhyder Wu (Year 7).

Division B

  • Merit Ribbon: Andrew Francesconi (Year 11), Tyler Wu (Year 9), Kevin Zhou (Year 8)
  • Team Medal: 1st place - Fantastic achievement by A.B. Paterson College Team 2: Andrew Francesconi (Year 11), Maxim Nadezhdin (Year 8), Tyler Wu (Year 9) and Kevin Zhou (Year 8)!

Division C

  • Merit Ribbon: George Patten (Year 8), who secured 9th place out of 67 competitors—an incredible effort! Well done, George!

As A.B. Paterson College continues to foster a love for chess, students eagerly anticipate upcoming tournaments and opportunities to further sharpen their skills.
