Melbourne Arts Tour: Four Inspiring Days of Performance, Creativity and Connection
Our Melbourne Arts Tour was a whirlwind of creativity, culture and inspiration, offering students an unforgettable immersion into the performing and visual arts. Over four action-packed days, students stepped well beyond their comfort zones, experienced world-class performances, explored iconic cultural institutions and engaged deeply with contemporary creative practices.
The tour began in spectacular fashion with Art the Play, followed by the high-energy and much-loved Waitress the Musical. Students were immediately immersed in professional theatre, gaining insight into storytelling, performance conventions and the magic of live production. Between shows, there was time for some light retail therapy, plenty of food (lots of food!), and even a few surprise celebrity sightings — adding to the buzz of our first day in Melbourne.
After a blustery, wet start on Day 2, students took part in forest therapy sessions, learning practical strategies for reducing stress and connecting with nature. Each student “met” their own tree, creating moments of calm and reflection amidst the busy tour schedule.
The day continued with Heathers the Musical, which had students laughing, crying and thinking deeply about complex themes, followed by the breathtaking musicianship of Drum Tao – Samurai of the Drum. The precision, discipline and physicality of the performance left a lasting impression and expanded students’ understanding of global performance traditions. A visit to Southbank cafés and a late-night treat at Brunetti rounded out another rich day of cultural discovery.
Day 3 was all about creative exploration. Students visited ACMI to delve into the history of Australian film, television, gaming and digital art, before heading to the NGV to view the Top Arts exhibition — provoking thoughtful discussion about the meaning and intention behind contemporary art practices. In the afternoon, students participated in a K‑Pop dance workshop at The Space in Prahran, culminating in an energetic dance battle and countless moments of laughter, courage and self-expression. It was a joy to see so many students step confidently outside their comfort zones and fully embrace the purpose of the tour. The day concluded with a night at the symphony and dinner in Melbourne’s iconic laneways.
Our final day saw students exploring Melbourne’s renowned street-art culture through stencil and graffiti workshops and a guided laneway art tour. A visit to the Queen Victoria Markets provided a final opportunity to soak up the atmosphere, shop for souvenirs and reflect on an extraordinary few days together before heading home safely.
Throughout the tour, students demonstrated curiosity, resilience and enthusiasm, engaging with performances and venues many had never previously considered attending. It was a privilege to share this experience with them, and we thank families for supporting this opportunity — one that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on our students’ artistic perspectives and personal growth.
