Junior Volleyball Schools Cup

It was medal mania at the recent Queensland Volleyball Schools Cup for our Year 7 & 8 students. The College had four teams entered into the three-day tournament, all of whom performed at an amazingly high level. The College came away with three medals for the weekend, an outstanding achievement for all involved.

Our Year 7 Girls team stole the show at their first ever tournament. These girls managed to go undefeated through the pool stages to make the Gold Medal game, playing in an absolute nail-biter. Ultimately, with the support of a very loud A.B. crowd, these girls got over the line in the third set to claim the first ever female gold medal in the College’s history of this event. Special mention to Melody Marks-Edmondson who won MVP for the whole division.

Gold for Year 8 Boys Volleyball Team

The Year 8 Boys team played underdogs in their division, coming from second in their pool to reach the gold medal game after winning two tough crossover games. Despite having to go the long way, these boys came out and dominated their final, claiming the gold medal in straight sets against a difficult opponent. Aiden Zhang was named MVP for the division after playing consistently at a high level across the three days.

The Year 7 Boys team provided a roller coaster for their coach and supporters, with many ups and downs throughout the tournament. The most impressive thing about this group was the improvement they showed over the three days, giving themselves a chance to playoff for a bronze medal. Similar to the Year 7 Girls, the decider was extremely close (and stressful for those watching!), but our boys prevailed to claim a bronze medal!

The Year 8 Girls team displayed a level of Volleyball that was well beyond their years, playing in an extremely competitive division. The girls went through the pool stages undefeated, guaranteeing them an opportunity to play for a medal. After a couple of narrow losses in the crossover games and bronze medal game, our girls finished up fourth for the tournament which is an outstanding achievement. This group is definitely one to watch as they move through the years.

The tournament capped off what has been an overwhelming successful year of Volleyball at the College, totalling three gold medals and two bronze medals at the Schools Cup Tournaments.

Thank you to all the players, coaches and supporters for their involvement!
