$20 Boss Market Week
This term, our Year 10 Business and Economics students participated in the $20 Boss program, an initiative that challenges students to design, develop and operate their own businesses for the College community.
Throughout the process, students engaged in product ideation, financial planning, marketing, production and sales. This learning experience culminated in Market Week during Week 5, where students managed pre-orders from the Junior School and operated market stalls during lunchtime that provided staff and students from Year 4-12 a chance to stop by and see what all the excitement was about!
The program provided students with valuable real-world insights into running a business, including both the successes and the challenges associated with entrepreneurial ventures. It is this hands-on experience that highlights the value of studying Business and Economics at the College.
Student Testimonials
The $20 Boss project was a highly enjoyable experience that gave us the opportunity to build our marketing skills, product design, pricing strategies, fostering teamwork, perseverance, and inspiring our future entrepreneurial ambitions. - Aaleen, Coco, Mila and Reetliv
We enjoyed the Market Days, as we were given the opportunity to learn how to make successful sales to junior and senior school customers, while managing money, demonstrating leadership and teamwork, and learning practical skills that we can use for future businesses and real-world scenarios. - Joseph, Xavier, Will, Tyler, and Teddy
Market Day was a genuinely authentic business experience because everything felt real, real customers, real pressure, real competition. Our group of four (three on the day) sold out all 56 products in just 15 minutes, creating a chain reaction of demand. We collectively learnt how powerful good customer service is, especially using our voice confidently while staying friendly, and engaging the young customers effectively. – Ethan, Alexa, Addisyn and Tulip
The 20$ boss program was an inventive and educational task that helped my group and other groups to learn important business skills that enhanced our knowledge upon the topic. It was a valuable learning experience that helped the groups to figure their way around selling their product. Creating the product was also a valuable experience finding out what would sell best and making the perfect product. - Ruben
All profits generated by the student groups will be combined and donated to the Animal Welfare League Queensland on behalf of the College. The final fundraising total will be announced at the end-of-term assembly!
We extend our sincere thanks to the College community for their enthusiastic support and purchases during our Market Week. In particular, we acknowledge the Junior School teachers for promoting the program in their classrooms, as well as the energy and engagement their students brought to Market Week. Also thank you to the HaSS Department, Natalie Williams and the Junior School teachers, Angelina van Heerden, the Maintenance Team and of course, Year 10 Business parents and caregivers.
Students will now begin preparing reports reflecting on their Market Week experiences, which they will present to their cohort next term.
Congratulations to all students who participated in the 2026 $20 Boss Market Week!
