Swimming Club

A.B. Paterson College Swimming Club is run independently of the school swimming program. It is a registered club affiliated with Swimming Queensland.  Students can join the club for an annual membership fee, making them eligible for club nights, and enabling them to compete at any Swimming Queensland-sanctioned meet. Currently, our swimmers range in age from 6 - 17 years.

Becoming a member of the A.B. Paterson College Swimming Club will give children the opportunity to practice the skills needed for competitive swimming. Club nights are held fortnightly from September through to April.  The emphasis for Club nights is to have fun, achieve personal bests, and prepare for competitive swim meets.

The A.B. Paterson College Swimming Club caters to all ages and abilities from recreational swimmers through to swimmers competing at national levels. Our ASCTA-qualified coaches have the goal of helping every swimmer achieve their full potential, and to provide a friendly and supportive environment.

The Club is open to all students 6 years and older.  Club members are registered with Queensland Swimming. Fees cover Queensland Swimming membership, insurance, a Club swimming cap and our annual award event. Membership forms can be obtained from the swimming pool. It is not possible to attend Club Nights without being a member.

Friday Club Nights

Club nights are held each fortnight in Terms 1 and 4.  Times are recorded, using an electronic timing system.

Points allocated for participation, equalling personal best times and improvement.

As a minimum requirement, we ask that the child can swim 25m of freestyle confidently and independently.

For each Club Night to run successfully, we need volunteers to help with setting up of marshaling, timekeeping, and, of course the BBQ – so please don’t wait to be asked - volunteer!

Throughout the swimming season, we aim to attend swimming meets as a team (including coaching staff).  There are a variety of levels of competition available, and all competitive swimming levels will be catered for.
Our Head Coach Liam du Feu sends a weekly email to all our swimmers in the squad system (Water Dragons, Sea Snakes, Freshwater Crocodiles and Saltwater Crocodiles). This weekly email highlights Target Meets for our team throughout the season. A Target Meet means an AB Paterson Coach will be in attendance. If you are in the Turtles squad and would like to know what meets are best to enter please check with Peter Gee.
