Principal's welcome

Welcome to A.B. Paterson College, a proudly Australian school. Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions you will make. Every child or young adult deserves an education that encourages the achievement of his or her ‘personal best’ as a well rounded human being.

Our College has a number of differences from other good schools.

We are not aligned with any religious or other system, which means we leave faith development to parents, and decisions about the College’s operation and future directions can be made at a local level, based on students’ needs.

Curriculum, together with teaching and learning practice, focuses on the individual student. The College bases teaching and learning strategies on the Teaching for Understanding framework (from Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, USA). The framework helps students from Prep to Year 12 to think creatively and learn to apply skills and knowledge to new and real life related situations.

Our curriculum is designed on a Prep to Year 12 basis so that students can follow a clear and well planned pathway from their first day of school to graduation. Our Early Childhood Centre for children from 15 months to 4½ years of age is linked to the College curriculum.

The College deliberately does not seek to limit itself by being a ‘sporting school’, or a ‘performing arts school’, or a narrowly academic school. This would not be in line with our philosophy of catering to individuals, who all have different talents and needs. The wide range of academic, vocational, and co-curricular activities caters for students at beginner or highly advanced levels.

Our teachers are committed to on-going professional development, collegial planning, and to the achievement of the College’s overall philosophy and goals.

Our students are all expected to play a major and positive role in supporting one another to achieve their personal best; positive peer pressure is a strong factor in success.

Becoming enthusiastic and independent learners has never been more important. We believe we offer students a unique environment in which to grow and achieve their personal best and encourage you to find out more by visiting our campus and speaking with current and past parents and students. The majority of our enrolments come by their recommendations.

I look forward to meeting you.
